I’d watched the
The Forbidden Kingdom on Monday night. Before I watch it, I thought it is just a simple normal fighting movie by Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Story start from Monkey King (Journey to the west), and then story continue at US city, A kid, a chosen one to bring the Golden Staff to it owner. Then this kid start a wonderful journey and the story began…

Never expect to see Liu YiFei as Golden Sparrow. A mistery girl at the restaurant who met with Jackie Chan and the kid, later she follows them to seek for the person who killed her family.
In the movie, the one who act as Jade Warlords, Collin Chou. I 1st see his movie on 1994, in Stephen Chow‘s Movie, Hail the Judge. I never know he had gone to US for further study and also involved in the Matrix Series, maybe I only focus on the Main actor and actress at that time. Sorry~
After read through his Biography and some research on him and his movie. I think I start to like his movie and hopefully he can get some better movie in upcoming future.

I like this movie, I loves the Journey to West story very much. I think to those who not manage to watch it at the Cinema, please go to the DVD shop and grab one, you will never regret.

For me, personally this movie sucks ….its a regret that the 2 most celebrated martial artists since Bruce Lee are only able to cooperate for the first and possibly last time approaching their career twilight year. One wonder how wonderful it will be if they are able to starred together during their prime in the nineties, in movies not corrupted by slow motion “art-like” movement and over-laden with special effect. And what the heck that all the Chinese ppl speaking English in ancient China for the sake of an American? Its obvious this movie is directed for American audiences, for those who haven’t watch classics such as New Dragon Inn and Fist of Legend.
The White Hair Witch is a far cry from the original character so memorably portrayed by Brigitte Lin in The Bride with White Hair. Back then, though the special effect is not so advanced compare nowadays but it is more realistic and the character is far more fearsome and charismatic. Liu Yifei is just the vase, some sort of must-have companion for the heroes without notable contribution.
As for Colin Chou, he is a great actor but sadly being portrayed fighting in a way a 3 years old kid also know how to fight. Ever watch him fight in Flashpoint (with Donnie Yen) and Bodyguard from Beijing (with Jet Li)? Argghh, sigh, if only the director is in the calibre of Tsui Hark or Ching Siu Tung.
And with the battle fought by so few soldiers, this movie is a complete letdown and only the presence of Jackie Chan and Jet Li able to give it some sort of marketing publicity. For kungfu connoisseurs longing for more realistic action film, SPL and Flashpoint (both starring Donnie Yen) is the only positive note in this era full of special effect and Western audience-pleasing purpose movies.
