Discuss about Car Dashboard Light

Taken from Return of the two-tiered Civic dashboard
This post do not direct relate to Any Honda’s cars.
I think all car must have a Dashboard which have many indicator on it, such as Speed, Rpm, Petrol Level, Radiator Temp. Level, etc… Normally Dashboard will light on when you turn on the car lamp, right? But recently some of the car’s dashboard light on right after you start the engine, it helps driver to see better with the light is on. I totally agreed with this idea at first, not until last week Friday…
I drove back to office from Mid valley, there was a car (Honda City) on the road where the driver (Women driver with few kids in the car) do not switch on the car lamp. My 1st thought was “Maybe the road was too bright and that’s why she do not notice about that”.
(Her car was right in front of my car)
When I start to think further~ She should notice about this when she see the dashboard with the light off condition (light off means car lamp is off). Later I’d realized that her car (New type) was those dashboard light on when the engine was start, so the dashboard light was on and that why she never know that her car is almost invisible to others, because there isn’t any light from her car. It is very dangerous, if people can’t notice her car existence, it means they might knock her car by anytime, any change… What if the one who knock her car is Lorry or Bus? Can you imagine that…
I asked some Honda driver/user, they mentioned that is a indicator for car lamp on/off at the dashboard, and some said if the car lamp is switch on, the dashboard light will be dimmer. For me, both isn’t so significant to tell the driver where they has turn on the car lamp or not. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I really hope there is a ways to improve this condition, a car which do not turn on the light is almost same as committing suicide slowly…
What is your opinion about this, please share…

i think Myvi also have similar system. It is very useful for the dashboard light to on once engine started, but as you say some people may not aware or realise to switch on the car light during downpour. Silver colour car especially is very hard to be seen during heavy downpour.
The dashboard light will dim abit once the car light is turn on. The only solution for now is be more vigilant and pay attention to the dashboard car light symbol whether got turn on or not. Or manufacturer may add some LDR to flash some signal to driver to turn on carlight if too dark.
YKH:
yes, indeed the car manufacturer need to do some counter measure, some permanent counter measure for it. To be alert by driver still not the most affective ways. Must come out some Poka Yoke Methods to prevent failure/mis-attention happened.
??
I think at the end of the day still depends on how alert is the drive. An alert driver should have able to know whether the head lights is being turn on or off (it should be quite obvious especially at night even the whole street is fill with street lights), this is all depends on individual. If a driver is not alert by himself or herself, not matter how many indicator that having in the dashboard, still useless…
Share a real time story with you, once I was in a friend’s car and notice the battery indicator is lights up all the while, and I ask him, is your dashboard problem otherwise should you check your battery whether is weaken or have some problem with the electronic supply…But the answer is ……
Eh? never notice there is indicator light over there… and … didn’t that this battery indicator is light up to show you the battery is in good condition that it can still have lights on it ….(doh~~)
