Channel NewsAsia | Singapore’s jobless rate increase 2.1% in June , why Malaysian still go Singapore work?
Just read the news from Channel News Asia this morning and learned that Singapore basically reported to have 2.1% jobless in June report. That means 67K people jobless in Singapore, that is serious issue.
But I really doubt about that, because we keep on seeing job vacancies advertisement on Jobstreet, Monster Job or JobDB website for the Singapore opportunities. And many of my friend still working at Singapore too.
The question is why Malaysian can get job in Singapore while Singaporean can’t?
Yes, maybe the growth of the job and opportunity is much more slower than the input of the graduated workforce from University. Is that the main issue?
I been talked with few fresh graduated degree holder, they’re jobless at that time, and maybe now still. They can’t find their “DREAM” job that why jobless. They attended hundred of interviews but none of them fit to their expectation, so they refuse to pick it up. They rather to sit at home than work in a job that they don’t like. Oh gosh, how they survive their living? They still stick to their parent and under that safe shelter, they hide themselves from reality world. I feel shame on them.
I think job vacancies still plenty out there, just the matter, they wish to take it or not. How you think about this issue? Many people jobless at your country?
Background News Taken from Channel NewsAsia:
SINGAPORE: Singapore’s unemployment rate rose to 2.1 per cent in June from 1.9 per cent in March as employment growth slows and graduates enter the job market.
The Manpower Ministry (MOM) said preliminary estimates showed that total employment grew by 22,800 in the second quarter of the year.
The gains were lower than the 28,300 in the preceding quarter and 24,900 in the same quarter last year.
The bulk, or 18,800, of the employment gains came from services.
Construction added 2,600 workers and manufacturing employment rose by 1,300.
Based on the preliminary estimates, MOM said 1,500 workers were retrenched and 400 had their contracts terminated prematurely, resulting in a total of 1,900 workers made redundant in the second quarter of 2011.
This was substantially lower than the 2,750 redundancies in the first quarter.
Services laid off 900 workers, followed by manufacturing with 600. Construction displaced another 400 workers.
An estimated 62,700 residents (a seasonally adjusted figure) were unemployed in June.
