I found this in my colleague farewell email when he left my company for good sake, I suppose. At this economy condition, work in Electrical appliances company isn’t a good ideas at all. If you’re in this industrial, please continue work inside the same company, do not try to be clear/funny to job hopping to another similar industry company. To change job at this moment is not advisable, So, good luck to him.

Most of us do not work for our boss directly, but immediate superior. We report our progress to them and that make us use to address them as “Boss”…

19 Dec 08 Hitachi Sales

Went to Hitachi Warehouse Sales this morning, reached there about 09:00am. Officially the Warehouse sales will be start at 10:00am but as a “Kiasu” (scare of lose) person, we went there earlier in order to get cheaper nicer items. I can say, there were already lot of people there, all I can is, go late will be less possibility to get cheap items.

Maybe some might ask why we can get cheaper price item in Warehouse sales? It was because Warehouse sales means selling items which store in the Warehouse for quite some time. Some of the item, have minor defect, such like dented, Bend or Scratches. All the items got no performance problem, just appearance wise… we need to accept it.

This is the GOLDEN opportunity for me to buy Refrigerator in Lower Price.

18 Dec 08 Letter from The Management

Dear Staff,

Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown of economy in US since last Christmas, Management has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 40 years of age on early retirement. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early). Persons selected to be RAPEd can apply to management to be eligible for the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination). Persons who have been RAPEd and SHAFTed will be reviewed under the SCREW scheme (Scheme Covering Retired Early
Workers). A person may be RAPEd once, SHAFTed twice and SCREWed as many times as
Management deems appropriate.

Persons who have been RAPEd can only get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents or Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance). Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTed or SCREWed any further by management. Persons staying on will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. Management has always prided itself on the amount of SHIT it gives employees. Should you feel that you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring to the attention
of your Supervisor. They have been trained to give you all the SHIT you can handle.

I found this letter is so funny, it is not real for sure. As per current economy condition, sooner or later everyone of us might introduce some similar programs as mentioned in the letter. In Malaysia the MOST famous Scheme is called VSS (Voluntary Separation Scheme), eg This news. Some of the big MNC (Multi National Company) had implemented this scheme last month. Some of their target achievement is > 500 head counts. Can you imagine, 500 staff they plan to lay off…

Some Japanese Adviser told me that this condition may last until 2011 (they based on their Japan Specialist Advice). 2011, what would be the world looks like? I can’t imagine it. Currently most of the company started to move into fully automation Era, but they might have to force to stop/on-hold all the high-technology (High Values investment) in order to survive~

At this moment, no matter you’re consumer, buyer, or manufacturer, maintain low profile would be the most practical ways for these few years. NO big purchase, NO big changes~

So, do not be surprise if you received a letter from your management sound like above~

01 Dec 08 Uncertainties of Dec’08

Few days ago heard that one of the company nearby my house declared no bonus and no salary increment for this year. I beg most of the employees will be demotivated after listen to it.

Everyone is looking forward for the BONUS and Salary Increment at every year end (December). Most of the company will rate their employees by their superior appraisal report, based on that, they will decide the percentage of adjustment.

For some company will practice 13th month bonus, it means company confirm will give a month Bonus as month 13th salary (Based on 52weeks working a year, 52/4 = 13 months calculation). They will give additional Bonus based on the appraisal, for those who work hard and performs well might get another 4 months Bonus. To those who lazy and under performs might get nothing in this evaluation.

I personally kinda shock to hear about above mentioned company declared such kind of direction during this moment (World economy crisis). It is an UK based company, strong in foundation, yet faced the financial problem too. I can’t imagine how the local company react on current situation?

Salary deduction to keep company continue running? It’s practical because one of the inter state flight company, their employees actually volunteer to deduct their own salary by 10~30% to help company overcome the financial problem, to keep the company running and that the only way to keep our job. Finally the flight company success to get through the tough time by everybody hard work. Is their ideas/concept in our Malaysia working class mind-set? Nope, I don’t think so.

If a company ask their employees to accept the severe condition as NO BONUS, NO SALARY INCREMENT and NO MORE OVERTIME CLAIMS. I’m so sure that many people will leave the company and seek for other opportunities, they would not think twice. That’s the immature thinking of local work forces.

In end of 2008, we faced financial crisis, so many question appeared around us, why? what? when? how? So many uncertainties… I would like to advice everyone to stay in their current job, secure your job is the only thing you can do now. The world condition is very bad, while you’re in the green room, don’t curious about the outside world which is unknown~
