What is the necessary Documents for crossing Thailand by Car? There are few necessary documents to prepare before your trip.
Travel to another country, you need a passport, that is the basic. Therefore, you can not enter Thailand by car without any document. You need necessary documents as below,
Necessary Documents for crossing Thailand border by car:
- Original vehicle registration card a.k.a car grant
- Thai vehicle insurance
- Copy of road tax (optional)
- Car information or conveyance form (inbound and outbound) – 2copies
- Malaysian driving license for driver
- Passport of the driver and all passengers
- Completed arrival cards for all passengers
- Passenger list form -2 copies (Optional)
Original vehicle registration card a.k.a car grant
This is very important if you plan to drive your own car crossing Thai Border. Please bring along your car grant with you, preferable original and photostat together (you might not know what being asked or request on the spot). However, If the vehicle is not registered under your name, you will need to get an authorised letter from the vehicle owner & copy of the owner’s N.R.I.C./ Passport.
Another key point, Malaysian company-registered vehicle will need to provide Form 24 (SSM company registration details) & FORM 49.
Thai vehicle insurance
You need to have a valid car insurance in order to cross the Thai Border. You need to show the document to Thailand immigration officer. Therefore, You need the following insurance for proper coverage to drive in Thailand.
- The Compulsory Motor Insurance (CMI) – Compulsory
- The Voluntary Motor Insurance – Optional
- Personal Travel Insurance – Optional
As for the vehicle insurance, you can get it at Kedah, town before entering Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint. In Fact, Changlun area, along the roadside full of the agent providing vehicle insurance services. However, if you want to avoid the queueing time and hectic form filling at the agent counter, you can choose those provide online insurance services (Link as below).
Car information or conveyance form (inbound and outbound) – 2copies
To be exact, these are the TM2 and TM3 form, which you need to complete it before you enter to Thailand immigration counter. TM3 is the passenger list and TM2 is meant for the vehicle and trip information.
Arrival cards for all passengers
This is a very common document for us who travel oversea, you need to fill up this before you enter to another country. Please make sure you fill up this before reach to Thailand immigration.
Malaysian driving license for driver & Passport of the driver and all passengers
Is a MUST to bring along passport when we travel out of our own country, no doubt. To drive at Thailand, you need to have a valid Malaysia Driving license, please bring along.
Personal Travel Insurance
This is not a MUST for travelling to oversea, but it is good to have it. Especially “Accident” knock you when you least expect. If anything happens to you, the hospital bill can cost you a fortune at oversea.
